This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

 

Couse Requirements

Candidates must 15 units of competency including Nine (9) core units and six (6) elective units to attain this qualification CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support. Learner characteristics and target group

Target groups for the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support are students who are:

-       Seeking to pursue a career in individual support

-       Seeking to enter a new industry sector

-       Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications.

Characteristics of the target group are as follows:

-       Students who are seeking to develop their skills and knowledge in individual support to further their career prospects or study pathways.

 

Delivery mode

This program is delivered face-to-face in classroom, and through structured self-paced self-study.

Course duration

This course will be delivered over 35 weeks of study, including 3 weeks of work placement and 2 weeks of holidays/study break.

 

Entry requirements

Penny Royall College has the following entry requirements:

Students must:

-       Be at least 18 years of age.

-       Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.

-       Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills, for example, to read materials relevant to the course, participate in discussions and observations and apply numerical concepts such as in relation to calculations and time management. This will be tested through a LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.

 

Additional requirement:

Students must:

-       Be able to obtain a Police Check Clearance and NDIS Worker Screening Check (if required)

-       Be able to undertake work placement provided at an Aged Care Facility for a minimum of 120 hours.

-       Have access to an operating computer, laptop or a tablet with Microsoft office.

 

Assessments

A range of assessment methods will be used to assess required skills and knowledge for each unit of competency. These may include but not limited to may be case studies, written or verbal questioning, role plays, observations and practical demonstration. Students will be notified in advance of the time and form of an assessment. As this is a competency based training, outcome of the student assessment will be deemed Competent (C ) or Not Yet Competent (NYC).

 

Pathways

Potential employment options are as a direct support worker in aged care, disability, home and community care or other direct care work in the community services industry. Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support or CHC43321 Certificate IV in Disability Support and a range of other related community services qualifications.

 

Course credit

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning). The granting of course credit may affect course fees, as well as the duration of the course.

Work placement:

The students are required to undertake at least 120 hours of work placement over 3 weeks in an approved and regulated aged care facility to complete the requirements of this qualification. Penny Royal College will arrange work placement for students at an approved and regulated aged care facility and a location suitable for students. Students are required to completed assessment tasks and maintain a logbook throughout the placement. Students must undergo a police check clearance / NDIS screening prior to placement which will be at the student’s own cost.
